The Building Technology Solutions (BTS) group develops software for distributors to enhance their ability to estimate, schedule, order, and deliver architectural hardware, wood doors, and hollow metal doors and frames. Currently, BTS offers four products, namely, PRO-TECH(R) Door, Frame, and Hardware System, CURRIES Order Writing(COW), Graham Wood Order Writing(WOW), and CURRIES Frame Estimating System. The PRO-TECH Door, Frame, and Hardware System is a computer software package for hardware specifications, estimating, scheduling (creating submittal documents), ordering, receiving, and shipping architectural hardware, wood doors, and hollow metal doors and frames. It is used for contract jobs where contract estimates and submittal documents are required. PRO-TECH is designed as a direct takeoff system for architectural hardware, wood doors, and hollow metal doors and frames. PRO-TECH generates door, frame, and hardware estimates and schedules.PRO-TECH is integrated with Microsoft's Dynamics Nav and Solomon accounting systems. PRO-TECH(R) is available for Windows 2000, 2003, 2008, Windows XP. or Windows Vista operating systems. It can function as a standalone system or be used in a network.Join a team creating cutting edge software for the Architectural, Engineering and Construction (AEC) community. You will play a key role in charting the future development of this software application, a BIM (Building Information Modeling) product configurator that guides users through the entire process of specifying and procuring doors, locks, frames and related hardware. This application will be used to analyze, visualize, share and enhance real world construction projects throughout the country.Reporting to the Software Architect, you will take a key role on a talented multi person team and work on the development and enhancements to PRO-TECH. You'll write a large amount of code, design, communicate ideas to the team, implement and ultimately be able to step in and handle any component or the entire life cycle of the process. We have a fast moving environment where you might have multiple projects -- new development, upgrades, enhancements, etc. You'll use a wide range of programming skills in completing these tasks. Your specific activities will include:Writing:Java, .NET and native C++ code.Evaluating:Requested changes/enhancements to size requests.Software products to be offered in conjunction with existing products.Development, test and productivity tools.Operating environments required for application usage.Extension of the application onto mobile platforms.Determining:How to incorporate requests into the existing database structure and multi-language codebase.End user hardware and software requirements for product installations.Developing and/or identifying:Integration of internal and external product design into a cohesive user experience.Requirements for a requested software change/enhancement.Automated test capabilities through software design.Paths from existing to future software architectures.Maintaining:Documentation and coding standards.Up-to-date knowledge of technological advances. A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related major.Minimum 3.0 GPA and top 10% of class.Classroom or project experience utilizing Visual Studio, Eclipse or Netbeans IDEs.Classroom or project experience with object oriented programming in Java, .NET Framework, C++ or similar language. Java, C++ and .NET experience is highly desired.Classroom or project experience with Java servlets, JSPs or ASPs and servlet containers such as Apache Tomcat.Classroom or project experience using an SQL database engine.Understanding of formal software development methodologies, preferably agile.Solid understanding of object-, component- and service-oriented design principles.Faculty references who can attest to academic record and suitability for the position.Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to act as a bridge between non-technical users and technical resources.The ability to:Perform against tight deadlines and multi-task effectively.Work effectively with groups of varying technical expertise.Excel at both working independently and in a group setting.Strong self-motivation balanced with a desire to achieve team goals.Experience contributing to software packages sold to external customers, including responding to input from customers is a plusExperience developing software applications for global deployments is desired.Experience with Building Information Modeling applications such as Autodesk Revit, Graphisoft ArchiCAD, a plus.Experience with 3D computer graphics APIs such as DirectX or OpenG is desired.#CB
