-Mechanics -Notation -Scale Theory -Improvisation -Rhythm/Timing -A Variety of Picking/Strumming Styles and Techniques -Creating Original Music and Playing Full Songs WELL. When we follow the proper steps, it is amazing how fast we are able to learn something so "seemingly" intimidating. The proper mechanics (the way we position our hands/posture and the instrument), rhythm/timing (division of the beat, even spacing)and presentation of feeling (the use of a variety of scales and chord positions to get ANY given feeling across)
In the beginning, this is very important; Not to create, or let the beginner create, to many bad habits to Unlearn later. Red Hot Blues Rock From Down Under with Gerry Joe Weise

posted: November 19, 2009, 04:42 PM

After a successful tour of Europe and straight out of the Chicago blues scene, Aussie blues rocker, Gerry Joe Weise returns for second visit to the Valley of the Sun before flying to Las Vegas for several performances. Weise is scheduled for three more engagements in the Phoenix area. Gerry Joe Weise Trio with Jimbo Gibbons, Arizona's favorite drummer and bass guru, Pablo Richards, will join forces at Pranksters Too in Scottsdale as a trio, from 10:00 pm to 1:30 pm on November 20, 2009. As a duo he will close out the ArtFest™ of Scottsdale on Saturday and Sunday November 21st and 22nd from 3:45-5 pm. The annual ArtFest™ of Scottsdale is the highest rated Fall Festival in Arizona.

Gerry Joe Weise, an Australian blues-rock guitarist and vocalist began playing guitar at age four, toured the world, and participated in numerous global festivals. He has toured successfully in Australia, Europe, Fiji, Polynesia, Azores Islands, Scandinavia, Tahiti, Hawaii, and other parts of the US.

Gerry Joe Weise is currently the number one electric blues guitarist in Australia. A masterful guitar player, he has played with BB King, John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins, Noel Redding and Eric Clapton. He has won numerous awards for his music and CD's; he also took the "Strat Master" USA title in 2008. Weise has released four albums with plans to release a new CD in 2010.

Philippe Lacoche, Courrier Picard Newspaper writes of Gerry Joe Weise and his trio, (they) “came on stage just after midnight, as Gerry Joe strapped on his guitar. His energetic guitar style, produced scorching blues licks, likened to that of Buddy Guy's intensity. Gerry Joe Weise's forte is his honest bluesman approach. The night was hot and sweaty, which measured up well to the expectations of all.”

Gerry Joe Weise, the Australian guitarist who has been touring Europe every year since 1980, has outstandingly impressed hundreds of festival audiences, with his sky-soaring-outstretched-fiery-blues-bonanza, a real guitar hero in the making! He is forever touring and isn't afraid of tough audiences, which he seduces quite easily, doing what he does best, that is : bringing the Blues to town, 'Australian style'! (Tom Nolwen, Blues Mag)

Gerry Joe Weise will be performing with two local favorites on this Arizona leg of the tour. Joining him on drums will be Jimbo Gibbons and Paul “Pablo” Richards on bass guitar. Pablo Richards plays with local favorite cover band, Ringo McLennonSon and has played with popular reggae band, Grant Man and the Island Beat. Drummer Jimbo Gibbons also plays with McLennonSon. The “Ringo” of McLennonSon, Gibbons has played with many local favorites such as Dr. Bombay and The Overtones. A world-class percussionist, Gibbons is featured on Smoot Mahooty’s album playing tabla.

Original band Rockslide Jones is seeking a Bassist

posted: November 9, 2009, 01:45 PM

Replyrockslidejones@gmail.com

Hi,

We are Rockslide Jones, a 5 piece consisting of drums, bass, rhythm guitar, lead guitar and vocals. We recently lost our bass player and need to get back to gigging ASAP! Our music is an original blend of genres including blues, funk, rock, jazz, and hip hop. We've been together and playing live for a year and a half and have played all over town, and even played the Whisky A Go Go in LA over the summer. We just finished recording our first CD and have plenty of material for another. We are serious about gigging and always have at least one show a week. All we need to start booking shows again is a versatile bass player. You can check out a few of our tracks at: http://www.myspace.com/rockslidejones We also have more recordings if the stuff on the website sounds interesting to you.

If this sounds like something you are interested in exploring, then let's set up a time to get together and play.

Drum Lessons in S. Scottsdale

For some informative, inspirational drum talk view my blog at http://www.precisiondrumming.com.

Hi folks! My name is Ryan Baker, in my private drum lessons you can expect to; learn music theory, jam with a bass player, record your performances, play songs of your choice, compose a drum solo and much more... I've been teaching drums in the Phoenix community for the last 12 years. I have a properly equipped studio located in the East Valley that includes two acoustic kits (not practice pad kits) and full P.A. I also play guitar and bass which proves helpful in discussing how to apply what your learning on the drums in a musical context. In an effort to address some of your general questions about lessons, I have included the following excerpt from my website http://www.precisiondrumming.com . This website has samples of some of my recent recordings along with a video interview, a calendar of my upcoming performances and much more. Look forward to hearing from you.

For your convenience I also have an on-line calender that shows all available time slots for lessons. You may view it by clicking here http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=4p3n36g5p54a9tr9gq3fbh902s%40group.calendar.google.com&ctz=America/Phoenix

Happy Drumming! - Ryan

Drum Lessons

Locations: Scottsdale Rd & McKellips Rd

Days: Monday - Friday

Classes: Hour or half hour sessions as often as you like. Some students schedule lessons once a week, twice a week, or once in a while to get something fresh to work on. I'm flexible.

Experience: 19 years as a musician, 12 as a drum instructor

Style: I have a passion for rock music. I also enjoy playing funk, blues, reggae, latin, and jazz.

Personal Statement: Music education has always been a priority in our youths development for good reason; it builds confidence, exercises the creative mind, is a positive social outlet and (drums especially) instills invaluable leadership qualities. Furthermore, private instruction has always had certain advantages over a classroom setting, moreover, has recently has been filling a void in the school system. I've had the privilege of studying with some amazing teachers over the years. They made what first appeared very difficult, seem much easier and exciting. This is now my goal as a teacher. Music lessons can enrich anyone's life. There is no substitute for sitting down one on one with someone accomplished at their instrument and who has performed for all types of audiences. As a teacher, I share my experience with aspiring players in hopes that it will resonate something within them, encouraging them to further integrate music into their own lives.

TESTIMONIALS

"I did a bit of research to find Ryan, and even though he’s about an hour away, his lessons are well worth the drive. His extensive training and experience provide him with the structure to teach all levels while addressing students’ individual goals. His patience seems infinite and I’m sure he could teach even the most sensitive or easily frustrated student. He has a way of encouraging, whereby the students are unaware that their abilities are being challenged and their skills honed – until they’ve impressed themselves by actually playing it! He inspires a love of the instrument. We’ve been with Ryan for a couple of years now, and even when he has other obligations (gigs out of state, etc.) he is reliable and responsible. He’s a consummate professional and one of the better one-on-one teachers I’ve ever met. He’s a nice guy, too!"

- Ann Campell 09/15/09

"Ryan is as gifted of a teacher as he is a musician. I had already been playing the drums for over 14 years when I started taking lessons from Ryan. It was obvious from the beginning that he has talent and lots of chops, and he can clearly explain and teach these technical aspects of drumming well. However, what most impresses me most now that I look back on it is his ability to see through a player's playing, past just the technical aspects, and identify songs and skills that will help that person become a better musician. Another key insight he has is how to challenge the student while avoiding drudgery. In my case, Ryan instruction was a mixture of new styles, rudiments, and exercises that greatly expanded both my playing and my enjoyment of drumming. He is highly recommended".

- Tony 09/07/08

" We are very pleased with the time you've devoted to our son. We all know teaching is an art, in which we all enjoy the end results. But we see the enjoyment our son gets during this process. Thank you for your efforts and knowledge".
- The Carr Family

"Ryan is very creative, patient and knows how to connect with Justin. He is also an extremely talented musician".
- Gary

"Ryan has inspired our son to love music even more and to apply himself to learning. Neighbors and others have commented on his improvement even in just the last few months".
- Debbie

"Caleb enjoys drum lessons so much. He is so excited to go every week. When he leaves he is always happy and stoked to go home and practice what he has learned. Since learning the drums he is much more able to concentrate on schoolwork. Since lessons began, he has achieved strait A's for the first time in his life. He is more confident and less shy around others. I am thankful to Ryan for the way he makes Caleb feel special and talented. It changed a young boys life"
- Naomi

"Jenna loves going to her drum lesson. She is the fourth child and the only one to get past the first year mark on an instrument (almost three years!). This credits goes to you Ryan. Thanks for making it fun and keeping her interested in drums".
- Denise

"Jasmine really loves to play the drums and we enjoy watching and hearing her. she practices everyday with enthusiasm. She is finally "getting it" with some things that she use to think were so awful to have to commit to memory and practice. Thanks for being patient with her".
- Tammy

"It's a sensational feeling when you allow yourself to be exposed to something new, acquiring valuable skills, and for me, this pertains to playing drums. I finally allowed myself the time in my schedule and committed to learning the drums. I've dropped my sticks mid-play, most of the time by accident, and has taken me longer than most to read drum music, but I found a teacher that goes above and beyond as a musician and as a professional in helping to guide me through proper technique and fostering my creativity at the set. Ryan caters to my learning style; there is a relaxed and comfortable approach to every lesson, so I feel at ease about asking questions and communicating with him. I really think he recognizes my struggles and continues to encourage me, while at the same time continuing to provide new avenues to endless sound possibilities. He sets high but reasonable expectations for practice and improvement. The harder I have worked, the further I've come along. Thank you Ryan for teaching me skills that I will continue carry with me and utilize at the set and at reaching my own personal goals as a drummer".
